FBI secretly pressured Americans into signing away gun rights

The FBI pressured Americans into signing away their Second Amendment rights to own, purchase or use guns, internal documents and communications obtained by the gun rights group Gun Owners of America (GOA) revealed this week.
ALERT: Here are US nuclear explosions you’ve never seen before
Through the Freedom of Information Act, GOA acquired the “NICS Indices Self-Submission Form,” which the FBI used to pressure Americans to give up their Second Amendment rights. The form states, “I understand that completion & submission of this form will result in the denial of my right to purchase, to possess and to use any firearm.”
The form also forces signatories to declare that they “lack mental capacity adequately to contract or manage the details of [their lives],” or are “a danger” to themselves or others due to a “mental-health condition.”
FBI documents that were also obtained by GOA and shared with the Daily Caller showed that at least 15 people signed the secret gun control forms between 2016 and 2019.
“We’re into a pre-crime, Minority Report type of world where the FBI believes it can take constitutional rights away from anyone it thinks possibly might pose a threat in the future,” Robert Olson, GOA’s outside counsel, told the Daily Caller. “Which certainly is not something you expect in the United States.”
Americans who sign the document are permanently registered with the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), the form states.
An FBI spokesperson told the Daily Caller that the form was “discontinued” in December 2019.
“The NICS Indices Self-Submission form was created to provide an avenue for individuals to self-report to the NICS Section when individuals felt they were a danger to themselves or others,” the spokesperson said.
Ken Cuccinelli, Virginia’s former attorney general, rejected the premise that Americans can sign away constitutional rights.
“You can’t waive constitutional rights,” he said. “They’re natural rights.”
Anti-Second Amendment gun control efforts continue to plague the political landscape nationwide. Earlier this month, a leaked internal government memo revealed that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul directed New York law enforcement officers to assume “anyone carrying” a gun is doing so “unlawfully until proven otherwise.”
