Fake Lawyer Who Practiced For 9 Years Convicted In Osun

An Osun State Magistrates Court in Osogbo has convicted a 50-year-old man, Hasan Olalere, for practicing illegally as a lawyer over a period of nine years.

The court’s decision on Friday led to Olalere’s remand in a correctional facility. He was charged with a single count of impersonation.

According to police prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, the defendant committed the offense between September 1, 2015, and September 5, 2024, in Zone 9, Capital Hotel Area of Osogbo.

“He impersonated to be a lawyer and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 108 of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. lI Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002,” Adeoye stated.

The suspect, who was represented by Remigus Nwgu, pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonation.

The presiding magistrate, Adekanmi Adeyeba, convicted the fake lawyer based on his plea and ordered his remand at the Ilesha correctional center.

The case has been adjourned to September 27, 2024, for the prosecution to present the facts of the case.

Mr. Yemi Abiona, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Osogbo branch, in his reaction condemned Olalere’s action.
