Oprah Winfrey turned 70 on Jan. 29, and to celebrate, the X account @PopCrave asked users to share their “favorite moment from the icon.”
More than seven months later, a screenshot of one response is being shared on other social media platforms: “That time police found human remains and evidence of cannibalism in her LA home that she sold in 2013.”
A July 12 Instagram post sharing the screenshot was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)
We looked for news stories, police reports and other credible sources to corroborate this claim but found none.
Instead, among the first search results is the original X post responding to @PopCrave.
The user makes it clear that it’s not true.
“crying,” the account said. “why are ppl actually believing this … y’all believe anything”
