Manchester United have several stars coming to the end of their contract this year, with several yet to negotiate new contracts.
If no renewal is agreed, players will be able to discuss new contracts with other clubs in January to line up a free transfer.
Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Amad Diallo are all now in the final year of their contracts.
It’s known that Amad Diallo is currently discussing a new contract, with the club wanting to reward the star for his recent performances and viewing the 22-year-old as a part of the ongoing United squad.
Harry Maguire is also engaging in negotiations, however, this appears to be more in the guise of United being able to sell him next year rather than letting him go for free after spending £80 million on him.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that no such conversations have begun for one of the remaining veterans.
Christian Eriksen to leave in the summer
Sports Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United have not engaged with Christian Eriksen over a new deal to see him remain at Old Trafford.
As such, it’s looking most likely that United will be happy to part ways with Eriksen as a free transfer. Seen as The Red Devils picked Eriksen up on a free transfer, losing him the same way wouldn’t be any financial hit to the club.
Whilst the Denmark international is still getting game-time this season, he’s not expected to be a part of any long-term plans for the club. Injuries to Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, with Manuel Ugarte settling into the squad, ten Hag is relying on Eriksen in the short term.
It’s been reported that United are scouting Morten Frendrup from Genoa, Eriksen’s international teammate. It’s believed that Frendrup is being seen as a long-term replacement for Eriksen and Casemiro.
No contacts ongoing now between Man United board and Christian Eriksen over new deal.
