Manchester United managed to hold on to a 2-2 draw against high-flying Liverpool.

Despite the somewhat positive result, it was yet another disappointing performance from ten Hag’s team. The first half in particular was particularly terrible, with United failing to register even a single shot and Onana already facing 15 shots.

Such has been the case virtually all season, and many a fan have already labelled this season a forfeit.

The only bright spot in Liverpool’s game and the season as a whole has been young Kobbie Mainoo, who has been nothing short of exceptional.

He was again the star of the show in Sunday’s North West derby, curling in the goal that put United 2-1 up.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano heaped praise on the young man while discussing the game.

“We saw an intriguing game between Manchester United and Liverpool yesterday, which ended 2-2 but at various points looked like it could go in either direction,” Romano said.

“Liverpool missed many chances, they created a lot, so it’s been a pity for them as they will no doubt feel they could have won the game by scoring more in the first half,” he concluded about the game.

Romano then went on to comment on how impressed he has been by young Mainoo who plays with such poise and composure for an 18-year-old.

“Still, I’m impressed once again by Kobbie Mainoo in particular – it is not normal to play at this level when you’re 18 and your team is not in the best shape. This guy is really special, so full credit to Man United for trusting him strongly.”

Manchester United will do best to trust Mainoo and build their midfield entirely around him. Considering he is only 18, he could run that United midfield for the next 10 years plus, granted the club keeps trusting him just as they are.
