Manchester United are in the market for a top centre back this summer, and one of the names strongly linked is Juventus and Brazil defender Gleison Bremer.
The problem is the big Brazilian’s release clause is only active in 2025 so getting him would only be possible if Juve make the active decision to sell him.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has however shed some light on the matter, giving United fans some hopes.
As the Italian guru reports, although the release clause won’t be active for another year, Juve have something of a ‘verbal pact’ to listen to bids of around the same region as the release clause.
“The formal release clause to pay and sign Gleison Bremer will be valid starting from summer 2025.
For summer 2024, there’s a verbal pact to consider bids for the same amount… but with final decision up to Juventus.
The amount of the clause is variable: €60/70m,” Romano wrote on his X account.
Romano’s information is clearly different from what has been commonly reported by most journalists covering the story, but with his deep connections in Italian football, it would take a brave person to deny the veracity of his statements.
It was even suggested that Bremer was slipping down United’s priority list, but that remains subject to confirmation.
As reported by The Sun a few days ago, United are willing to use Mason Greenwood as a bargaining chip in an attempt to entice Juve into selling them Bremer on account of The Old Lady’s interest in Greenwood.
What is clear is that there is still a lot of left to tell in this tale, as nobody seems one hundred percent sure of the finer points of Bremer’s situation.
The story will surely begin to unravel itself over the coming months when the transfer window bursts into life at the season’s end.
