The Cross River State Gubernatorial Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr. Eyo Ekpo and four other speakers have been scheduled to speak at an event to promote sustainable action against electoral violence in Cross River State.
The announcement made in a release made available by the organizers, National Association of Nigerian Student's joint campus committee, and signed by the Chairman, Ambassador Efenji Helen, said “in line with her good visions and missions for the protection and well-being of the Nigerian Student's deemed it fit to embark on a radical campaign cum sensitization programme tagged; SUSTAINABLE ACTION AGAINST ELECTORAL VIOLENCE/ VICE AMONGST NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN CROSS RIVER STATE.”
Helen added that “Nigerian Students are not thugs and should not be perceived as such. We know what we are doing. We are tired of being used for campaign and dumped, after all, we just witness with sorrow the murder of a Nigerian Student in this state, we are not happy about it. This programme is informed by the recent death of not less than three Nigerian Student's across different institutions and the unprecedented turmoil faced the chairman vis-à-vis the events.”
The chairman said the programme is partly to mobilize and educate Nigerian Students in the state on their voting rights and privileges, to debunk the unending idea of youth being used as political thugs, to redefine democracy, to advocate for free and fair elections across the state, among others.
The programme which will play host to students of all tertiary institutions in the state is billed for the 25th January 2018.
Other speakers at the event include Dr. Betta Edu, Dr. Jane Adah, and Hon. Asu Okang.
