A US-based attorney and public health expert, Dr. Okwudili Ezeike, has called on the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), a special agency of the United Nation and other international organizations to urgently intervene in the erosion that have reportedly destroyed over one thousand houses at Ekwulobia community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Ezeike seek the intervention when he lead a team of Journalists to the site of the erosion to ascertain the level of destruction cause by the ravaging menace in the town on Friday, June 6th, 2025.
He said the destruction that occured only during raining seasons has been in a gradual mood for decades.
According to him, the menace has cost damages worth billions of naira and it has also displace uncountable numbers of farmers in the area.
According to Ezeike, my purpose of inviting you members of the press today been Friday, June 6th, 2025 is to let the federal government of Nigeria and the United Nations to know what the good of Ekwulobia community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State are currently passing through as a result of the ravaging erosion. For the pass decades the community have been living in fears and agony.
“I am appealing to the above mentioned authorities to urgently come to our aid by assisting the state governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo who is committably working day and night to curtailed the devastating situation in the area. If not for the governor’s quick intervention by this raining season, the community would be wipe out by the erosion.
“The erosion is seriously a threat to public infrastructure and health sector. We, as a community, we have put a lot of preventive measures including planting of trees, but as you can see the whole trees are gone.
“We want the federal government of Nigeria and all the lawmakers representing the area to come on site and take a look for themselves.
“Governor Soludo has done a lot and he still doing his best to address the challenges, but it is not enough, we need further help from the international organizations to assist the Anambra Government. We really need a complex intervention from this organisations.
“As my speaking to you now, the community has no farm land any longer. My people are migrating from the town to neighbouring communities to survive and if nothing is done in the next 10-15 years, there will be nothing like Ekwulobia community again.
“Therefore, I am using this media tour to appeal to the federal government of Nigeria to liaise with the United Nation and other concerned international organizations to end the ravaging in Ekwulobia community,” Ezeike concluded.
