Ex-Gov’s Aide Writes Mbah On Insecurity In Uzo-Uwani LGA

A former media aide to ex-Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Hon. Simon Okechukwu, wrote a save-our-soul letter to Gov. Peter Mbah over the weekend, seeking his intervention on the insecurity in his Uzo-Uwani LGA.

Okechukwu, a renowned author, drew Mbah’s attention to recent killings in his area, which he alleged were masterminded by Fulani herders.

According to him, “Our community, Nkpologu, woke up on 11th April, 2025, to see our own brother and son, Chijioke Anioke, lying lifeless. Also, on the 12th of April, 2025, another person, popularly known as Aboyi from Amono-Uvuru-ani, was killed, and one Pius was attempted to be kidnapped by the marauding Fulani herders on our land, but with the swift intervention of neighbourhood vigilantes, he ran away to Amaezike-Nkpologu.”

He therefore called on Mbah to restore normalcy in the area to enable his people, who are mainly agrarians, to return to their farms.

He said the herders had taken advantage of the large landmass of Uzo-Uwani, much of which is presently inaccessible, to unleash mayhem on the helpless natives.

Okechukwu charged Mbah to fulfil his campaign promise of establishing a university of agriculture in Uzo-Uwani to dislodge the herders in the bush as well as boost the agro-potentials of the LGA.

He stated that “our people are appreciative of your recent deployment of five vehicles for the Distress Response Squad (DRS) in Uzo-Uwani to curtail crimes in the area.

“Our inaccessible landmass is under siege, preventing our farmers from accessing their lands. These incidents have created a climate of fear and uncertainty in our serene and peaceful communities, where our people are predominantly farmers.

“Rainy season is around the corner, and farming is our pride and major source of our livelihood in Uzo-Uwani. We are the food basket of Enugu State, and without access to our farms, both our people and the entire state are going to suffer from it.”

He, however, thanked Mbah for his impactful leadership in the state, including the ongoing Smart Green Schools and Type 2 Hospitals in all the electoral wards in Enugu State.

“The ongoing dualisation of Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka road and the construction of other digital infrastructure and developmental projects that are going on are highly commendable,” he added.
