Former Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro has reacted to the triump of Ademola Lookman at the CAF Awards gala where he clinched the Player of the Year title.
On Monday night in Marrakech, Morocco, Lookman was crowned Africa’s Best Player at the 2024 CAF Awards — a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding performances.
Peseiro expressed pride in his former player, saying, “Lookman’s victory is well-earned based on his contributions to both Atalanta and the Nigerian national team. He truly deserves this honor.”
Peseiro lauded Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini for his role in Ademola Lookman’s remarkable 2024 campaign.
Lookman, 27, has been in scintillating form for both club and country this year.

He was one of Nigeria’s standout players at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, delivering a stunning hat-trick in their final victory against Bayer Leverkusen.
Speaking to Sportitalia, Peseiro credited Gasperini’s tactical approach for Lookman’s growth.
“Giving Lookman the freedom to roam has truly unlocked his decision-making and execution skills,” Peseiro said.
“Atalanta and Gasperini have created an environment where he has flourished in all aspects of his game.”
