Craig Richards says he has finally been given the props he deserves for his performance against WBA light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, who recently defeated boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
‘The Spider’ pushed Bivol all the way in 2021, but was not given credit for competing with the best 175lb fighter on the planet. Instead, boxing fans concluded that the Russian was overrated for having such a tough time against Richards.

Earlier this month, Bivol proved he is the real deal when he easily outpointed the number one pound-for-pound boxer on the planet over 12 rounds to defend his light-heavyweight title.
Richards, who is set to face off against undefeated Olympic bronze medalist Joshua Buatsi at the O2 Arena in London this Saturday, revealed that his phone wouldn’t stop buzzing after Bivol’s famous win.
“Everyone was messaging me and reacting after the Canelo fight. Obviously, I had my phone on do not disturb when I woke up because I didn’t want to know the result,” he told talkSPORT.
“When I looked at my phone there was millions of messages about the result and my performance in the Bivol fight. It was good but I take it with a pinch of salt because if you don’t perform May 21st, it means nothing.”
The 32-year-old admits that he felt disrespected ahead of Canelo vs. Bivol, as some people suggested the fact he was able to compete with the WBA champion proved Bivol had no chance against the Mexican superstar.
