After almost a combined week of action thus far, today marks one of the most important of the Capcom Cup X journey as we learn who is moving on to the finals.
The last day of pool play for the Street Fighter 6 world championship is upon us that’ll determine the top 16 bracket, and a few managed to reach that feat early already.
Out of the top 48 combatants, two-thirds of them are about to be eliminated from contention and are all fighting for their playoff lives with $1 million hanging in the balance.
With only two players making it out of each pool, the best record will be placed on the winner’s side of the bracket for Sunday’s last bout while second place will end up on the loser’s side, so there’s an extraordinary amount going into this home stretch.
Even before the start of Friday’s matches, there were two players who already managed to statistically qualify between 00|Phenom and GG|Xian as the only ones that had 4-0 records after the first days.
As of the time of reporting, only Groups A, B, C and D have completed their run, so HB|Kawano, Yesports|Chris Wong and Nephew are the other qualifiers thus far with the latter barely scraping by over NASR|Big Bird in game record.
Naraka|DCQ and Street Fighter 5’s first Capcom Cup champion SR|NuckleDu managed to advance from Group C after some close calls too while another former Capcom Cup winner RB|Gachikun and Gumout|NL survived Group D.
The top 16 bracket is set up based on these groups too, which means Phenom will face off against the Group B winner, Group C vs. Group D, etc.
