For instance, the popular road in Calabar named MCC….ever cared to know what it means.
And you know MCC is one of the major point of attraction for Calabar.
Ceejay Ojong digs down history.
“Maynard Construction Company (MCC) actually an Israeli construction company that constructed that road. The Israelis had a related company RCC (Reynolds Construction Company) that constructed the Calabar – Ikom Highway.
It is common practice that wherever they have their equipment yard people start naming the place after them. Even in Abuja and Lagos you have Berger Junction for instance. Dantata & Sawoe in Abuja and so on. Target street in Calabar I think now Nelson Mandela was named after the colonial shooting range for soldiers from Akim Barracks (actually the first Barracks in Nigeria). Marian Road and Marian Extension afterwards (now Ndidem Usang Iso Road) was named after the Catholic church holdings starting from Holy Child – Marian Hill, Home for the Aged and so on”.
