Four members of the EventHubs crew were fortunate enough to get a chance to play Street Fighter 6 for a few days during the closed beta test last month, and after having explored the eight playable characters for a few days, all four of us came up with hot take tier lists.

Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, Jamie, Kimberly, Juri, Guile, and Ken all seemed to be reasonably able to get wins during our short time with the game, but which ones seemed the strongest and which had issues? We’ve put all four of our opinions together to come up with the EventHubs collaboration SF6 beta tier list.

The gap between the worst and the best doesn’t seem very vast right now, but if we had to pick a worst, all four of us would say it was Luke.

Street Fighter 6’s protagonist seemed straightforward and simple to use, but also seemed like he had a relatively low ceiling in terms of effectiveness. He wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, but none of us felt like he was better than virtually any other character.

The Strongest Woman in the World does look like she’ll be able to hold her own in Street Fighter 6, but after people get some decent time with her.

With two stances to learn and much more technical asks than those from other characters in the beta, Chun is a relatively hard character to play. We didn’t see a ton of strong Chun play during the weekend, and so she didn’t rank too high on this early tier list, but we wouldn’t be too surprised to see things change as people learn her ins and outs.

The newest Bushinryu character, Kimberly, is explosive and quick, and came across as very powerful during first impressions.

However, as the beta continued on, we quickly began to note some weaknesses in her footsie game (her buttons aren’t the best, and she may need to resort to gimmicky run ins for openings) so she started falling down our lists a bit.

In the end, she was placed fourth twice, fifth once, and sixth once. This led to an overall rating of sixth.

Juri has continued to be red-hot in terms of popularity since her Street Fighter 4 debut, and Capcom has been figuring out how to correctly balance her relatively unique stored special attacks.

She seemed very formidable in the beta, excelling at footsie play and converting stray hits into some great damage. Consensus was fairly divided on her amongst our team, however, as she received two top three placings, but then two bottom three placings as well.

Another brand new character to the franchise, Jamie does come with the weight of being a little more technical than those above him, but he did get a lot of attention from seasoned pros who can already see his potential.

Having to go through the extra steps of leveling up and remembering what sequences will work at what times is difficult, but the rewards for doing so look very promising. Jamie was ranked third, fourth twice, and fifth once to end up at fourth overall.

Ken Masters is getting a lot of the Street Fighter 6 spotlight with his drastic redesign from his Street Fighter 5 appearance, and he’s proven to be a combo monster right out of the gate.

His naturally offensive style lends itself well to early play as the onus is on the defender to figure things out, and we saw a good bit of Ken efficiency during the beta weekend. Ken got two second overall placings, one fifth, and one sixth to end up in third overall.

guile | EventHubs' collaboration Street Fighter 6 beta tier list | The Paradise News

With his traditional style still very much intact, Guile lent himself to legacy players during the beta as his go-to strategy of zoning with Sonic Booms and anti-airs proved quite effective.

We’ll see if the meta continues to evolve to a point where this kind of strategy doesn’t work out as well, but right now it seems very powerful… and we still have a lot to explore in terms of Guile’s new potential. One of us placed the American hero at number 1, one at number 2, one at number 3, and one at number 5 overall.

The most recognizable character in the franchise is matter of fact going to garner the most initial play time, and it definitely behooves Capcom to make sure he leaves players feeling satisfied.

Ryu wound up being the number one pick for all but one of us, solidifying him as the top dog in this early snapshot of the upcoming game.
