The Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, Hon. (Mrs.) Esther Bassey, has presented more than six laudable projects of her administration, as No Sidon Look, a Civil Society Organization paid her a visit.
No Sidon Look has since the week commenced Local Government Projects Assessment Tour, as all LGA Chairmen clock one year in office.
Speaking in her office Tuesday, Hon. Esther thanked Almighty God and the peace-loving people of Calabar South for standing up in defence against the hoodlums who broke into the council at the peak of the EndSar looting and vandalism.
Accoding to her, “It was the natives who stood up against these people (hoodlums), and prevented them from burning down the council.”
Though the LG recorded its own fair share of loss, Mrs. Bassey averred that her administration has been able to “Revamp the almost moribund LG council and the Legislative Chambers.”
She added that “In the past one year, with the lean resources, we have been able to situate two roundabouts around Anantigha to ease traffic.
“In conjunction with Salvation Army, we have also constructed six classroom blocks for the delivery of quality education.
“In the area of Security, you all can testify that this LG that was once known for notorious gangsterism, is now perfectly calm. We are assiduously working with the security operatives and local vigilantes to ensure that they arrest anybody likely to cause or create mayhem and this has helped to restore sanity to the South.”
The Chairman also revealed that her administration is building over 60-unit of lock up shops at Watt market to create additional source of IGR.
Concluding, she appealed to the good conscience of the Governor, Ben Ayade, to come to the aid of the council financially in order to enable them put the council back in order.
However, the Director General of No Sidon Look, Mr. Portrait Peterson, is using the opportunity to call on Cross Riverians at large to look out for any chairman who is not delivering on his or her campaign promises, and to use wisely their voting power to either return or remove such a person from elected office in the forthcoming election.
