Esam has released a new tier list for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This ranks every character’s viability in the doubles format (2v2).
Just like with the 1v1 format, there’s a particular character that’s especially strong here. Indeed, Minecraft’s Steve sits at the very top of the tier list. Evidently, Steve is so strong in this format, that Esam believes that he should be banned outright.
To clarify, Esam isn’t saying that a team of Steve and Steve should be banned, he’s saying that the character should be banned in general. Overall, the character just offers too many advantages in 2v2 matches.
Aside from Steve, the other strong characters that are good for 2v2 include Mr. Game & Watch, Incineroar, Ike, Cloud, Sonic, Corrin, R.O.B., Yoshi, Snake, Lucina, and many more. It’s interesting to see a variety of characters that are perceived as being either top tier or low tier in a typical 1v1 tier list this high on Esam’s doubles tier list.
Meanwhile, Rosalina & Luma and Dedede are said to be the absolute worst in the doubles format. Esam outright states that you should avoid playing them here.
Characters like Duck Hunt, Ryu, Ken, Olimar, and the Ice Climbers can technically work in 2v2, but they require specific teammates to support their shortcomings. As a result, you’re probably better off picking a character that just provides more for team skirmishes.
