Now Erik ten Hag is firmly in the driving seat at United after a two week long post season review, all attention can turn to the pre-season and next year’s Premier League and Europa League campaigns.
The Dutch manager is keen to overhaul the squad ready for next season in order to try and reboot the club, but this wont come without some clever signings.
With Rasmus Hojlund as the club’s only striker, the club’s attacking options are somewhat limited going into the pre-season.
However, reports from Argentina claim that Erik ten Hag has one man firmly in his mind to bring to Old Trafford to help out on the attack.
Roma’s Paulo Dybala is the forward on the Dutchman’s mind, with the Argentinian still awaiting conversations with Roma around a contract extension with his current deal due to end next year.
Reports from TuttoMercatoWeb who reference Argentinian publication Il Messaggero, have claimed that ten Hag is extremely interested in the forward, with the World Cup winner having a €12 million release clause which is active as of July.
Although the Argentinian is 30-years-old, being vastly over the new rumoured transfer policy at United, looking to recruit players under the age of 25 to be long term assets, Dybala offers a lot of experience and skill to the team, having not only won the World Cup in 2022 with Argentina, but also having a successful career at Juventus winning five Serie A titles, four Italy Cup titles and three Supercopa Italiana titles.
During his time at Juve, Dybala netted an impressive 115 goals and grabbed 48 assists in 293 games, then making a move to the Italian capital for €41 million where he’s managed to keep up his high form, scoring 34 goals and getting 18 assists in 77 games.
With stats like this, the consistency of the striker is clear, making him a great asset to any squad, however Dybala currently earns €6.5m net per season plus add-ons, which is a hefty salary for any team to take on.
