Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has said that he sees himself returning to Ajax in the future.
Speaking to VIaplay, the Dutchman was quick to clarify that there has been no contact with his former club.
While he did say that he would be open to a return to Ajax in the future, the 54-year-old also noted that he assumes he will be at Manchester United next season.
However, that assumption may well be a flimsy one. Ten Hag’s Manchester United have had a very difficult season, sitting in 6th place in the Premier League table. They also crashed out in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
It has been a massive drop-off from the previous season, where United finished 3rd in the Premier League, reached the FA Cup final and won the Carabao Cup.
According to many reports, United’s new partial owners INEOS are still deliberating whether to continue with ten Hag next season.
The FA Cup may well be what saves the former Ajax boss from being sacked. Manchester United will face rivals Manchester City in the final on May 25.
The game will no doubt be billed as a chance at redemption for last season’s final loss against the same opponents, and a chance for Erik ten Hag to earn himself another season at Old Trafford.
