Erik ten Hag’s position at the helm of Manchester United has been in doubt on account of the horrible season the club is having.
The Red Devils were dumped out of the Champions League in the group stages in a group that included minnows FC Copenhagen and Turkish team Galatasaray.
The Carabao Cup holders were dumped out of the EFL Cup in the early stages of the competition this season, an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.
Ten Hag’s team are currently languishing in 6th place in the league:13 points behind 4th place Aston Villa and 6 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in 5th.
Champion’s League football next season is a far cry judging by form and how badly ten Hag’s team has been playing and buckling under pressure.
Their only hope for a trophy is the FA Cup as a Wembley date awaits for the final against city rivals Manchester City, a match that they are certified underdogs one might add.
As HITC report, ten Hag has reportedly privately made an admission regarding his future.
“Sources have confirmed that Ten Hag has privately admitted that he does not know whether he will still be in charge beyond the end of this season, but that does indeed fit with the messages coming from the club’s hierarchy,” the report reads.
The period between now and the end of the season will be absolutely crucial as the new INEOS hierarchy at Old Trafford takes shape.
It is all falling into that place in that regard with the final piece being the appointment of Dan Ashworth which is nearing completion.
The new hierarchy is expected to hold talks at length with Erik ten Hag before coming to a decision at the end of the season.
Perhaps only an FA Cup win and a Champions League berth which is very improbable would be enough for ten Hag to save his otherwise very at-risk job.
