England must ‘live in the now’ as they look to ‘inspire the nation’ ahead of their Women’s Euro 2022 clash against Sweden, says Sarina Wiegman.

The Lionesses are two victories away from lifting their first major international trophy as they take on the second best ranked side in the world on Tuesday night, live on talkSPORT.

England brilliantly fought back in their quarter-final tie against Spain to book their place in the semis

History dictates that the Bramall Lane clash will be where England come unstuck with the side suffering semi-final heartache in each of their last four major tournaments.

However, Wiegman insists her players won’t have their previous last four woes on their minds.

“I think it’s going to be a very tight game,” Wiegman said at her press conference ahead of the tie.

“We know that they’ve performed really well over the last years, they’ve always been performing really well in the women’s game – they’re No.2 in the FIFA ranking.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, I think a totally different one to what we had against Spain because they have a different style of play but we’re prepared.”

When asked about those previous last-four exits, Wiegman added: “I think it’s necessary to be in the now.

“I do think you always have to learn from your experience and take out the things that you can take, to become better and learn.

“But it’s no use now to talk about that all the time, because it’s now, it is now. So why should we talk about that all the time?”

Wiegman is under no illusions that Sweden will represent a tough test, which is why she’s calling on the Lionesses’ adoring fans to bring the noise once again.

“The England team is ready to play their best game tomorrow against Sweden, and hopefully we inspire the nation,” Wiegman added.

“I hope they’re going to bring us a lot of energy. We’ll do that ourselves but it was really an excellent thing and gave us an extra dimension with what we got in our last games and that’s really exciting.

“We hope we’re going to make them proud again.”
