England v Netherlands LIVE commentary: Lionesses face Dutch in tough test in Leeds ahead of Women’s Euro 2022

England will continue their preparations for the 2022 Euros by taking on big guns Netherlands in a friendly in Leeds on Friday night.

Sarina Wiegman’s side got their pre-tournament camp off to a fine start with a 3-0 victory over Belgium last week.

Chloe Kelly, Rachel Daly and Leah Williamson were on target for the Lionesses as Wiegman got to test out some ideas ahead of this summer’s European Championship on home soil.

England were comfortable against Belgium throughout but lacked a clinical edge up top and now face a far tougher test against the Dutch.

The Netherlands are among the favourites with England for Euro glory this summer and beat them in the semi-finals of the 2017 tournament before going on to claim glory.

Wiegman has now named her 23-player squad for the competition which England kick off against Austria on July 6.

England v Netherlands: What has been said?

Wiegman: “What we want to do with the technical staff is develop our style of play, in possession, out of possession and in transition moments.

“What we wanted to do, we have done so far, so we have a couple of camps and some games to go and we have some things we really want to do before we start on July 6, so we are in a really good place.

“It was a really hard decision [leaving Steph Houghton out] but it was hard for every player that we had to disappoint.

“Of course, Steph was such a big player, who had such an impact on the English game, and she did everything. But other players did everything too and it is really hard [to leave the players out].

“Fran [Kirby] is doing well, she has been in training for a while, she has been in camp with us, and she has been in training, playing in the training games and she is ready to compete.”
