The Leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, BCS His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, has proposed dialogue between Nigerian youth and the political leadership of the country as a veritable way of resolving the current turn of events with the #EndSARS protest NEGROIDHAVEN can say categorically.
Leader Obu spoke through the spokesperson of the BCS, Christ Shepherd Edet Archibong, on Friday in Calabar the Cross River capital city.
According to Leader Obu, ‘the only solution left to the government now is to have a dialogue with the youth in various states of the country’. According to Archibong, this disposition is contained in a worldwide address made by Leader Obu on Sunday 25th October 2020 during an online service.
Speaking further, Leader Obu said, ‘the agitation and restiveness of the youth is not supposed to be, because the Nigerian nation is lavishly blessed with all it takes in spiritual, human and material resources, to be a global force but wanton greed, avarice, endemic corruption and lust for power and position have led to the mismanagement of the common wealth.’
Leader Obu charged Nigerians to shun divisive inclination, ‘the people of Nigeria must rise above above all tribal, religious, ethnic and political boundaries and live as one family ordained by God and assume their leadership role in God’s divine scheme of things in the world presently.’
While the religious leader tasked the youth to be law-abiding and shun the destruction of critical infrastructure, as well as advocating for a peaceful and noble expression of their grievances, he charged against the use of force by state actors against protesters. His words ‘deep precaution and necessary restraints must be exercised by law enforcement officers and the rulers in the course of carrying out their normal security duties.
‘Rulers must not, for any reason, present themselves as objects of terror to the masses but as those chosen and empowered by the Holy Father to see to the well-being of the citizens and thus ensure the equitable utilisation of the wealth and resources of the states and nation to cater for their welfare’.
He declared peace over the country.
