Ruben Amorim will grasp at any positive he can find, during what has so far been a tough spell at Manchester United.
The January transfer window provides an opportunity to make amends.
With United’s financial situation uncertain, major signings are unlikely to happen.
That is, unless a key player is sold.
That makes the need for smart recruitment, even more important.
A Premier League striker has been on United’s radar over the past few months.
However, it seems like the player now favours a move elsewhere.

That player is Christopher Nkunku, currently struggling for minutes at Chelsea.
According to Florian Plettenberg on X, Nkunku’s main aim is to join Bayern Munich within the January window.
The Frenchman and his camp are of course, aware of United’s interest.
Christopher #Nkunku’s stance hasn’t changed. If an opportunity arises, he still wants to move to FC Bayern by Deadline Day. Personal terms are 100% agreed, as previously revealed.
His agent, Pini Zahavi, remains in contact with the clubs. #CFC

The 27-year-old is in the peak of his powers and understandably wants to leave.
Enzo Maresca has often spoke about Cole Palmer being the sole reason why Nkunku hasn’t faced much time on the pitch.
Nkunku often thrives playing off the striker (shadow striker) and has proved to be a top goal threat over the years.
The attacker produced elite numbers at RB Leipzig and famously scored a hattrick against Manchester City at the Etihad in 2021.
United’s interest in Nkunku dates back to early November, where it was believed the Frenchman was open to idea of move to Old Trafford.

It now seems like the forward only wants to move back to Germany.
Nkunku may well have been a good fit for Amorim’s system.
The Portuguese has strong tendencies to adopt a shape consisting of two narrow attacking midfielders.
Mason Mount is one who also from Chelsea, produced excellent form in that position under Thomas Tuchel.
Amorim will look to the market to solve goalscoring issues, but United fans won’t stay patient for long.
