The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2019 General Elections has accused the Federal Government of having a hand in the postponement of the election, saying it was impossible for the electoral body to have shifted the elections without the nod of the presidency.
The former Governor of Cross River State asked the INEC Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmoud to resign honorably as this decision, taken less than 5 hours to the commencement of voting has put the credibility of whatever elections that will be held to question.
Duke further added that the postponement is a “well scripted legal coup, taken to the next level to bleed the opposition of finance to execute the election” saying the ruling party is hoping to benefit from the postponement because it has a near unlimited access to finances.
Duke said the cost of the postponement is unimaginable, as it has turned Nigeria to an instrument of mockery in the international community, wondering why INEC which had barely a week ago boosted of its readiness to conduct the elections will at the last minute call for a postponement of the polls.
It will be recalled that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu had announced the postponement of the Presidential elections barely 4 hours to the commencement of the polls drawing criticisms of opposition leaders and the president expressing disappointment.
