The Federal Government has donated 700 metric tonnes of grain to Ekiti State as part of efforts to alleviate current economic hardship.
The donation, made on Thursday, includes 12,000 bags of maize and 3,008 bags of garri.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, while receiving the donation on behalf of the state government, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the gesture.
She said the grains would be distributed to vulnerable groups within the state.
“The governor also approved certain funds to victims of fire accident as collated by the State Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
“This attest to the fact that the partnership between the governor and Federal Government’s agencies is yielding dividends for our people. We will make sure these materials get to the targeted population to justify the purpose for which it was released,” said Afuye.
“This contribution from the federal government complements our recent distribution of 20,000 bags of rice and garri to our citizens,” Afuye stated. She also highlighted Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s approval of funds for fire accident victims, as identified by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
The donation was facilitated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Mr. Stephen Adewale, representing NEMA’s Director-General, Zubaida Umar, revealed that the Tinubu administration has distributed a total of 42,000 metric tonnes of grains—including rice, garri, sorghum, and millet to all 36 states.
“Based on the directives of Mr President, 20 per cent of the food items due for each LGA should be given to religious organisations, and 3 per cent to be given to boarding schools,” he said
