The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, on Friday clarified that the era of just rusticating students found participating in cultism and other fraud related cases was over, saying any student caught in the acts would be prosecuted and sent to jail, Dailypost.ng reports.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Taiwo Akande , who said this on Friday while administering oath on 3690 matriculating students of the institution , said the school would no longer condone any act of illegality, including cyber-crime, cultism and illegal sale of bed spaces by students.
Akande advised the students against taking steps that could alter the academic calendar, reminding that doing so may prolong their stay in the institution and affect their lives generally.
She said the institution had made the passing of all entrepreneurship courses a prerequisite for graduation in, adding that this was conceived to widen the scope of the students to be able to cope under the present economic situation.
She said:
“management has put in place a vigilant security network to closely monitor students and sniff out the bad eggs. Such unscrupulous elements will not be allowed to dent or tarnish the hard earned image of this institution. Anybody caught will be made to face the full weight of the law”.
Disclosing how students engage in accommodation fraud, the Rector said: “it is most disturbing these days to discover that any students sell their bed spaces at exorbitant amounts to fellow students after being allocated bed spaces in the hostel.
“If detected such students would be not only be rusticated he will be prosecuted as well,” Akande warned.
