Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested no fewer than 13 students of the Usman Danfodio University Sokoto at Udus hostel and surrounding areas.

The operation, which took place in the Kwakwalawa and Gidan Yaro communities within the campus, resulted in the arrest of students suspected of internet-related offenses.

According to one Abdul, a student who spoke to Punch, the EFCC operatives arrived around 4 am without arrest warrants.

A senior staff member of the university, speaking on condition of anonymity, said approximately 40 students were initially taken into custody by the EFCC.

Following preliminary investigations, 30 of the students were released, while 10 remained in the agency’s custody for further questioning.

In an official statement released on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, the EFCC confirmed the arrest of 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Sokoto.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, explained that the arrests were made based on actionable intelligence suggesting the suspects’ involvement in internet-related offenses.

Oyewale confirmed that all 13 suspects claimed to be students of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto.

The EFCC’s statement further revealed that the suspects were apprehended in the Gidan Yaro and Dandima areas of Sokoto.

Oyewale said investigation was ongoing, and once concluded, the suspects will face charges in court.
