The long wait for Street Fighter 6’s next DLC character is almost over, and there’s a bit more new content to help tide fans over until the time is right to go hands on with the boxer.
Capcom has officially released the full character theme for Ed in SF6, which as some of you may have noticed in his gameplay reveal trailer is a German rap.
The title of the track is called König oder Feigling, which translates into English fittingly as ‘King or Coward’ with lines about feeling alone, longing for success, fearing failure, wanting the sun, but feeling the moon is enough for him before getting more triumphant / defiant.
Alongside the song, Capcom also released a behind the scenes video with the German-born Japanese rapper Blumio in the recording studio and official German subtitles for the lyrics.
Although SF6 features other hip hop tracks, we haven’t really gotten much in this game for vocal character themes to this point. Since this one seems to be getting some more positive reception than others, maybe it’ll become more of a trend in the future for later DLC.
Ed’s original character bio for Street Fighter 5 listed his country of origin as unknown since he was taken by Shadaloo as a potential body for M. Bison, but it seems now they’re leaning more into him being of German descent like his compatriot Falke.
We’ve also learned from his trailer and subsequent information that Ed’s given up his kicks now as a full on boxer while getting motion inputs for his Classic controls as well.
Ed is scheduled to release on February 27, 2024 just over a day after the finale of Capcom Cup X in Los Angeles, California. He may also be playable at the event, but there’s been no confirmation of that yet.
