Ed Boon 'leaks' a new look at Kitana from the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film

A sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat film is currently in the works and is set for release late next year. Leading up to the big launch of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie, though, we are slowly learning more about it as the folks behind it trickle out fresh details and glimpses at what’s to come.

We see A LOT of leaks in our niche here, from data miners combing through game files to trailers launching before intended, but it’s rare that we ever get to see someone major who is involved with a project leak something themselves. Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon dropped a “leak” earlier today that gives us a new look at Kitana in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 major motion picture.

Boon took to Twitter today to share his “leaK” for the new Mortal Kombat film. He notes that he snuck into the phone of the movie’s producer, Todd Garner, to steal an image of Kitana to share with the fans.

“I recently saw a (unfinished cut) screening of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie,” Boon wrote. “During the screening I broke into @Todd_Garner’s phone, found this image from the film, and send it to my phone. I can leak stuff too #MK2movie #BoonLeaks.”

The image doesn’t show the entirety of Kitana’s look in the new film, but we do get a close up shot of one of her fan blades. In addition to this, we also get the opportunity to see the details on her gauntlets, as well as a good portion of the rest of her costume.

Garner responded to Boon’s leak by saying the director at NetherRealm Studios got out ahead of it. “Damn you @noobde!!! I was wondering what you were doing. You beat me to it,” Garner wrote.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to follow the events of the 2021 film. We will see Cole Young, the protagonist of Mortal Kombat and descendent of Hanzo Hasashi, again as his story continues.

In addition to Kitana, who is set to be portrayed by Adeline Rudolph, we will also be seeing a bevy of popular characters from the franchise make an appearance. Included on this roster, we also have one of Mortal Kombat 1’s latest DLC characters, Quan Chi, set to be in the film and being played by Damon Herriman.

Mortal Kombat 2 already has a set release date, and fans will be experiencing it in IMAX theaters when it drops. The upcoming film is scheduled to release on October 24, 2025.
