ECOWAS Media Awards: Emmanuel Onwuka Wins First Prize for Online Journalism

Banjul, The Gambia,  July 25, 2025 — Emmanuel Onwuka, a Nigerian journalist and publisher of Parallel News, has won the first prize for online journalism at the inaugural Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Media Excellence Awards.

The prestigious event was held in Banjul, The Gambia, as part of the 50th-anniversary celebration of ECOWAS, drawing entries from journalists across West Africa.

Onwuka’s entry was commended for its depth, relevance, and impact in promoting accountability, regional development, and digital storytelling in West Africa.

Other award categories included television, radio, and print journalism.
