The Ebom Ebrutu community in Abi Local Government Area has called on the Federal and State Governments to quickly intervene in the perenial communal clashes with their neigbours which have claimed many lives and wanton destruction of property.
The Community,in a “Save our Soul” message sent to the State Governor,Sir Professor Ben Ayade and other Security Agencies in the State and Federal government contained in a communiqué reached at an large meeting of Traditional Rulers, Women Groups and Youths held at the Palace of the Ovai Usor of Ebom, His Royal Highness ,Pastor Henry Bassey,and read by the Secretary to the Ebom Traditional Rulers’ Council, Elder Chief Egwu Igiri said the appeal had become imperative following the continued death and destruction of their livelihood,resulting in untold hardship which the community has been passing through ranging from killings,destruction of farms,food crops, bad road network linking the community to their sisters communities of Usumutong and Ediba adding that with the re- construction and rehabilitation of the only accessible road in the area, economic activities will increase,noting that the community have no good drinking water, poor health facilities, electricity while their sons and daughters have been deprived of appointments, among other challenges.
The Community, in the communique also commended the State Governor,Sir (Professor) Ben Ayade on his untiring efforts in curbing the spread of the deadly Corona Virus disease that is ravaging the entire world into the State, adding that in their effort to complement the State Governor’s efforts in combating the Pandemic, the community has set up a committee in charge of the Corona virus to regulate and monitor the ban on burials, marriages and other large gatherings while also carry out enlightenment programmes, advocacy as well as sensitization within the community to enable the residdents adhere to precautionary measures put in place to prevent the spread of the disease in to Cross River State.
The Community, while pleading their unalloyed support and co-operation of the Traditional Rulers and the entire Ebom people to the Governor Ben Ayade led administration, congratulated the Executive Chairman of Abi Local Government Area,Hon. Fereton on his landslide victory at the just concluded Local Government Elections as well as thee Councillor representing Ebom/Ebijakara Council Ward, Hon. Monday Uba Okon and prayed God to guide and protect them in the discharging their duties.
In another development,the National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria, Yakurr Chapter has congratulated the newly sworn in Executive Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Ofem Ebri Obeten and his vice Mrs. Obeten Maria Enyim and all the thirteen Councillors on their landslide victory in 30th May, 2020 Local Government Elections held across the State.
The congratulatory message which was signed by the Branch Chairman of the Union,Chief Francis Ujong Inah and made available to newsmen in Ugep also commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Local Government Area for the choice of Ofem Ebri Obeten as chairman of Yakurr, describing him as humble, transparent, business guru and above all a politician with difference and called on Yakurr sons and daughters to co-operate and support him so as to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroot.
The NURTW Boss further pledged the Union’s unalloyed support and cooperation on his revenue drive for the development of Yakurr and charged him to be focussed and unbiased irrespective of Party affiliations.
