Manchester United were routinely linked throughout the summer with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze whilst looking at rebuilding their midfield.
The 26-year-old has been in a great run of form for Palace so far this season, with three goals and an assist in nine games, being a key member of their starting eleven.
Eze’s role in the squad is so vital that Palace’s chairman Steve Parish was severely concerned at the prospect of losing both Michael Olise and Eze in the same transfer window, labelling the England international “a gift to any football club”.
Despite interest from United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, no offers for the attacking midfielder materialised, however interest in the star hasn’t faded.
United are still monitoring Eze and are keen to sign him next year, making him one of their four key priorities for next summer.
However, news has now emerged outlining a key condition that will need to be met to sign the 26-year-old.
Manchester United keen to sign Eberechi Eze
Whilst the club’s scouting department is keeping tabs on Eze, the England international comes at a price. £60 million (€72 million) to be precise.
That’s the value of the star’s release clause, which is significantly out of reach for United at this time.
The club are already at risk of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) if they don’t qualify for the Champions League next year, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s role as club ambassador being axed in the latest bid to cut costs at Old Trafford.
It’s now been reported that a big name would need to be sold to generate the funds needed to secure Eze, with the two names linked to the deal being Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.
If either of the pair were sold, it would bring in enough funds to buy Eze, however, United would be losing their captain or Rashford who appears to be on the brink of finding his form once more.
United are linked to Eze primarily due to his versatility which would allow him to play in either of the pair’s positions, making him a younger alternative to Fernandes, being the same age as Rashford.
His versatility as an attacking midfielder or wide forward makes him an attractive option for the Red Devils, especially as they seek to strengthen their attack.
