Duke and the Reverend Sisters |
CALABAR – The Commissioner representing Cross River State on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rt. Hon. Orok Duke has called for prayers to be offered for the governor- elect of the state, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu and other leaders in the state and nation.
The former lawmaker who made the call recently in Calabar while donating food items to Reverend Sisters of the South Eastern Province who are in the Calabar for the Vesper Retreat, solicited for continued prayers for the growth, development, security, peace and unity of the state and nation, stating that Prince Otu, Sen. Musa Adede, and other leaders need God’s grace to take Cross River state and Nigeria forward.
Duke maintained that the donations of food items is a little token of his support to service of God and humanity. He added that the gesture was aimed at joining the sisters in celebrating the festive season as they enjoyed themselves in the presence of God all throughout their retreat holding in Calabar.
Thanking the NDDC commissioner, after receiving the items, Sister Maria Abang said the gesture will go a long way in meeting the needs of some of the orphans and less privileged within the province.
The Reverend Sister further explained that the Vesper Retreat is a spiritual exercises as well as an important break where a few days are spent in prayer alone with God.
She described it as a time in the presence of God, examining our Christian lives to try to see where we are at and how we can to improve our relationships with God and others.
She prayed God bless everyone abundantly who has contributed one way or the other for the food items.
