D’Tigress of Nigeria have made history by advancing to the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Nigerian team secured their place with a 79-70 win over Canada in their final group stage game at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France, on Sunday.
This victory marks the first time D’Tigress have reached the quarter-finals in an Olympic basketball tournament. They topped their group with five classification points, ahead of France, who still have a game against Australia to play later in the day.

The match was closely contested, with the first quarter ending in a 18-18 tie. Canada led by four points at halftime, with the score at 41-37. However, Nigeria turned the game around in the third quarter, limiting the Canadians to just five points.
D’Tigress delivered a dominant performance in the final quarter, securing a historic 9-point victory and sealing their place in the next round. The team had bounced back impressively after a loss to France, having previously defeated Australia in their opening game.
