Driver Charged After Pedestrian Killed in High Speed NYC CrashFREEDOMNEWS.TV

July 30, 2024 MANHATTAN, NYC – A man was killed after a major collision allegedly caused by the speeding driver of a white Mercedes-Benz on Monday afternoon in East Harlem, cops said.

According to police officials, Angel Melendez, 51, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

Melendez is accused of driving at a high rate of speed up First Avenue and blowing past a red light, barely missing a woman as he mowed down her push cart full of water bottles.

The Mercedes driver then careened into a parked 2009 Chevy Tahoe where Nadjari Reid, 51, was walking between and pinned between the SUV where a U.S mail truck was parked in front of.

Reid was critically injured and rushed with severe trauma to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, officials said.

Melendez was taken to taken to Harlem Hospital with minor injuries, and then into custody.

Police say Melendez had a teen passenger in the vehicle during the time of the collision who was not injured in the reported crash near the cross walk at E 105th St & 1st Ave in East Harlem, cops said.
