It’s only been a little over a week since the Season 2 patch for Street Fighter 6 was released. Shortly afterwards, ElChakotay was able to win Combo Breaker 2024’s Street Fighter 6 event with Lily.
This weekend, we’re just short of 400 players at DreamHack Dallas 2024’s Street Fighter 6 tournament. Though ElChakotay is undeniably a very talented player, the competition is much fiercer this time around, resulting in him placing 33rd at this latest tournament.
Players like Bandits|MenaRD, SR|NuckleDu, Mouz|Problem X, TM|OilKing, RB|Gachikun, FNATIC|Chris Wong, NIP|Phenom, and VSPO|Zhen are competing this weekend. It’s worth noting that these are the players remaining in the top 8 portion of the bracket.
Of course, this seems like a good event to gauge how the Season 2 meta is shaping up. We can do this by analyzing the character usage stats for the top 64 performing competitors.
Luke was generally seen to be the strongest character in Street Fighter 6 Season 1, but he received a number of nerfs going into Season 2. However, it would seem that Luke is still a strong contender as he was represented the most in the top 64 with nine players using him.
Guile and Ken also seem very strong as they both had six players playing as them by this point in the bracket. One extra player used Guile as a secondary.
Akuma is also seeing a decent amount of showing as there were three players using him as their main while MenaRD had Akuma ready as a backup character. Since Akuma is so new in Street Fighter 6, players might not yet be comfortable pulling him out at a tournament like DreamHack Dallas 2024.
Every character saw at least some representation, except for Manon and E. Honda. However, it should be mentioned that Ryu, Jamie, Lily, A.K.I., Dhalsim, and Kimberly all only got represented by one player apiece, suggesting that they might be destined to struggle again in Season 2.
