Dragon Ball Games has announced that Dragon Ball FighterZ is being released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on February 29 — tomorrow at midnight local time.
Additionally, the promised rollback netcode feature is also finally being implemented for Dragon Ball FighterZ. However, rollback netcode is reportedly only going to be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Steam, and Windows 10 versions of the game.
Of course, this is also suggesting that rollback netcode is not being implemented for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ. This is likely due to technical issues of the lower-powered hardware of the last console generation.
Luckily, those with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ should have the ability to upgrade to their respective console’s successor version as promised back in 2022. For now, there aren’t any details about how to perform this upgrade.
As far back as 2020, the Dragon Ball FighterZ producer, Tomoko Hiroki, would acknowledge the demand for rollback netcode for Dragon Ball FighterZ, but continued to assert that it would be difficult to implement for technical reasons. Finally, at Evo 2022, it was announced that the developers were actually going to add rollback netcode to Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Those with the Steam and Windows 10 versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ should just be able to download a free update that enables rollback netcode. Theoretically, this should make the online experience a lot more stable.
