…Says Initiative aims to complement Governor Otu’s Efforts in Educational, Infrastructural and other Developmental drive across the state
In a bid to support the educational advancement and empower the youths for tomorrow, an illustrious son of Umung Royal Dynasty, Dr Godwin Agbor, has dolled out cash awards through his scholarship grants scheme to selected students of the Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku (OBO)Federal constituency.
Addressing guests and beneficiaries during official presentation during the 2025 Umung Cultural Festival, Dr Godwin Agbor (the Chief Host of the Cultural Festival), declared that education is the bedrock of every society, harping on its importance in community development and collective advancement.
“The Umung Cultural Festival, is an annual event to get together and chart a way forward for development. It is an opportunity to immortalize our patriarch of Umung kingdom, Uti Otiribi Ikpenung 1 (1st Uti-lkpa).”

“This scholarship initiative, born out of my burning desire to contribute to community building and human capital development through educational empowerment,is meant to complement Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s giant strides in education, infrastructural development and health driven policies under the “People first” mandate.”
“On behalf of the entire people of Umung kingdom and the good people of Utugwang nation, I appreciate all those who have contributed immensely to the success of this celebration, the Umung Cultural festival which showcases our rich cultural heritage.
“This event is now every First Sunday of September annually. It is my belief that the entire people of Utugwang will key into this as our inaugural event and it shall surely metamorphose to a cultural event in subsequent editions. We look forward to sponsorship from governments at all levels, organizations and groups to drive this to an international spotlight. Thank you.”
Also speaking on the occasion, the scholarship committee chairman represented by the President of National Association of Obudu Students NAOS-WW, commended Dr Godwin Agbor for his humanistic ingenuity and efforts towards community development. He conveyed the joy of the association, while pledging support to the education scheme.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke, expressed their happiness, as they promised to utilize the funds judiciously for the great good.
The Medical Director of Omega Agbor Clinic and Maternity Ltd, a descendant of the patriarch of Umung Kingdom, is also a successful academic giant.
Highpoint was the official unveiling of the Utugwang cultural attire by the Clan Heads of Ukworogung and Nkirira, followed by symbolic presentation of cash to students beneficiaries.
The event also featured cultural displays, traditional dances and novelty football match where winners were presented with trophies and cash awards.
