DoPT to flag off construction of multi-billion Naira central park

In an effort to address the challenges passengers are facing in boarding vehicles to their various destinations, the Cross River State Department of Public Transportation, DoPT, will during the week, flag off the construction of a multi-billion naira state-of-the art central motor park in Calabar, the state capital.
Disclosing this to newsmen on Monday in Calabar, Director-General of the Department, Comrade Godwin Nyiam, said the park would provide passengers the ease of boarding vehicles to any destinations of their choice.
Nyiam, who used the opportunity to condemned the activities of some of the operatives of the Department that unfortunately led to the dead of Michael, a street hawker, maintained that DoPT as an Agency of the State Government saddled with the responsibility of regulating traffic on roads across the state, will at all times adhere strictly to international best practices and accord the highest sanctity to human lives.
He said since his emergence as the Director-General of DoPT, several disciplinary actions have been taken against erring staff, including dismissal.
While regretting the activities of some persons who had been dismissed, but still go about parading themselves as personnel of the Department, and thereby giving it a bad name, Nyiam appealed for the cooporation of the general public to help DoPT serve them better.
He said although the State Government had recently included ticketing as one of its duties, the implementation is yet to commence and therefore DoPT was not statutorily involved in the sales of tickets and collection of levies from market women.
The Director-General pleaded passionately with market women to move into the market to ensure free flow of traffic on the roads, adding that roadside trading exposes the traders to dangers such as accidents.
