Throughout all the transfer speculation revolving around United at the moment, there is one thing in common. United are looking for young talent.
It’s been rumoured lately that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s transfer policy for the Red Devils is to target promising young players under the age of 25 who can carry the team for years to come.
With this in mind, we’ve seen links to some incredible teenagers, already making a name for themselves, such as IFK Goteborg’s Malick Yalcouye, Stade Rennais’ Desire Doue and Benfica’s Joao Neves.
Now, following the collapse of a deal with Bayern Munich, a new young talent is appearing on United’s radar.
German publication Bild are reporting that both United and Liverpool have made a ‘specific enquiry’ into one of FC Schalke’s up and coming talents.
Highly skilled midfielder Assan Ouedraogo is the man at the centre of the action, with the 18-year-old making a name for himself in the Bundesliga after joining Schalke’s senior squad last summer from the academy.
The German midfielder has already made 17 appearances for the German club, netting three goals and grabbing two assists, however due to injury has been sidelined for most of the season.
Despite his young age, Ouedraogo is no stranger to silverware, with the 18-year-old already having lifted three trophies in the form of the Under-17 World Cup in 2023 and European Champion Title in the same year with the Under-17 German national team. His third trophy has come at the hands of the Schalke under-17s team, becoming Under-17 Bundesliga Champions in 2021/22.
Reports from Bild are that the midfielder has recently had negotiations around a deal with Bayern Munich break down, which is opening the door for other top tier clubs.
On the back of United’s enquiry, Schalke have put out a €10 million asking price for English clubs wanting to sign the young prospect.
