Do Zangief's new buffs make him a top tier in Street Fighter 6?

There’s no question that Zangief is one of the biggest winners of the latest Street Fighter 6 update
as the Russian wrestler received a myriad of buffs that help him dole out damage like no one’s business.

In Season 1, Gief was regarded as one of the game’s weaker contenders, often placed in the bottom 10 areas of tier lists thanks to his often lopsided match ups against stronger characters. MC Mura puts the buffed up character under the microscope in a recent video to try to answer just how good he’s become.

Mura takes us through each of Gief’s changes to show us exactly how they’ll affect the fight during the actual battle. A significant part of the Red Cyclone’s glow up deals with his ability to manipulate the bars on the screen, and that goes well beyond him melting your health away.

A number of his changes include doling out more damage to the opponent’s Drive gauge when they block his attacks while simultaneously building up his Super meter at a more efficient rate.

Indeed, moves like his headbutt now lop off incredible amounts of Drive gauge, and many of his normal attacks cause less push back so that he stays closer to his opponents and can threaten them for longer periods.

The impact of these changes has already become noticeable in his usage rates and performance at higher levels in ranked play, but does this all add up to Zangief being a top tier contender?

Check out Mura’s full video below to see the changes in action for yourself and hear his final analysis on the matter.
