“Yes, absolutely! I didn’t know elections were held on a weekday. All I can think about is those who are young or around our age who don’t have the privilege to miss work or skip class to go and vote.”

“Holding elections on a weekday does not hinder your ability to vote. There are ample times during the day when you could vote, i.e., before work, on your lunch break, or after work. In addition, if someone feels strongly about voting, they would and will overcome any obstacle to make sure their voice is heard. I’ve seen people camp outside overnight just for the best seats at a concert. Treat the voting polls the same.”

“Yes, I work a 9-to-5 job from Monday to Friday. Sometimes I have closing shifts, and sometimes I have opening shifts. Either way, I’m gone most of the day and have schoolwork to do when I’m off. I don’t have time to go to the office and vote.”

“It has been a long time since I have voted in the general elections. I don’t have too much trust in the system. I have participated in local elections over the years because these elections affect me. My thought on the general election is, if they want to avoid the trouble of elections being held on weekdays, try weekends, which would probably make it a little easier on people. But if they want to make it easy for people to get out there and vote, make Election Day a holiday.”

“I’ll play the devil’s advocate: Yes, having it on a weekday can hinder people from voting. Some employers don’t care and won’t let their employees have that time to go out and vote, and some do. Luckily, here in Washington, voting is by mail-in ballots, so people shouldn’t have any excuses when it comes to voting. Nationally, as we can see, states are trying to hinder people from voting.”
Sophie
“Some could see it that way, but it has always been on Tuesdays, at least during the general election. For the most part, voting has always been on a weekday, and if you are serious about your voice—serious about elections, particularly local elections—you are going to make the arrangements to get it done.”
