Ruben Amorim has demanded more leadership from his players after a difficult start to his Manchester United tenure.
Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Anfield highlighted what the team is capable of when fully engaged, but the performance left Amorim frustrated.
The manager questioned why such intensity and teamwork hadn’t been present in previous matches.
Since Amorim’s arrival, United have won just four games, exposing the squad’s fragility under pressure.
Before the Liverpool match, Amorim admitted the squad was “starving for leaders” to help navigate the challenging period.
His comments struck a chord with Diogo Dalot, who acknowledged the need to step up as a senior figure in the dressing room.

“It pinched me,” Dalot told reporters when asked about Amorim’s remarks after the game.
“I think that’s what he wanted for every player. I’ve been here for a while.
I know that I can step up a little bit more as well in that level and I’m going to try to help my teammates for as long as I can,” Dalot continued.
The Portuguese full-back, who has been filling in at left wing-back, produced his best performance of the season against Liverpool.
Dalot stressed his commitment to supporting the team both on and off the pitch.
He added, “As long as I’m on the pitch and outside the pitch, I will try to help them.”
He pointed to the improved sense of unity, saying, “You could see that we were more of a team.
“That was the biggest difference for today.”
Amorim’s impact is growing at Old Trafford, with players reportedly tuning in to his press conferences to hear his views on their performances.
Dalot has been one of United’s most consistent performers over the past two seasons, though his form has dipped recently.
To help Amorim’s project succeed, Dalot and others will need to maintain consistency and continue stepping up as leaders.
