Difficult Days Ahead As EFCC Freezes Gov. Fayose's Account.

Information reaching our News desk from a reliable source, has it that the Governor's house of Ekiti is 'under attack' as EFCC has placed an embargo on all his financial transaction from his  Zenith Bank account.

In a public address with Vanguard, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for EFCC,  argued that the agency has the right to freeze the accounts of the Governor, despite he enjoys immunity under the constitution of the Federal Republic.

In his words:

“Immunity does not prevent EFCC from investigating suspicious accounts of those enjoying immunity and Fayose cannot be an exception”

NHB learnt that the Governor's  account with Zenith bank was frozen by EFCC yesterday Monday, 20th of June on alleged allegation of incessant movement of Money.

Critical Reactions:

It appears to my mind that ” we smell a rat here!” How are we sure that the EFCC is not being used as an instrument for selective probing under the Leadership eyes of president Muhammadu Buhari led APC?

How are we sure that she(EFCC) is not acting on the basis of sentiments and partisanship rather than as an “unbiased umpire”?

If we may further ask: How many APC Governors have the EFCC investigated over alleged cases of Money laundry in the Buhari APC led administration?

The EFCC as we are aware is a constitution of the Federal Government of Nigeria and by such premise would be often time than not be tempted to succumb to the latter's whims and caprices. If the saying that 'he who pays the piper, dictates the tune' would hold sway.

My point is not to say that corruption cases and allegations should be left unattended to but rather that such cases of alleged corruption and money laundering should be carried out without sentiments, nepotism, partisanship and the worst of all, self interest.

Furthermore, the EFCC should know her boundaries. She should know the difference between an allegation and an outright empirical case of corruption.

She should do a proper homework to know the powers the Constitution provide her with  especially in matters of such nature as the investigation of a seating Governor of a State over some fallacious case of Money laundry and embezzlement?
