Manchester United are edging over so close the signing of 17-year-old Diego Leon.
Leon will be expected to join the club next summer once he turns 18.
The Paraguayan has been closely monitored by the Red Devils as part of their long-term plans.
Diego Leon is a talented left-back currently playing for Cerro Porteno in Paraguay.
The 17-year-old is viewed as a future option for the left wing-back role under Ruben Amorim’s system.
The young prospect has impressed with his performances, making 19 appearances in 2024 and scoring twice.
His attacking abilities have drawn comparisons to modern full-backs, with a huge level of potential.
Leon’s potential has attracted attention from top European clubs, including Premier League rivals.
Arsenal were among those interested in securing his signature, but United are set to beat the North London club to it.
The deal highlights United’s new approach under INEOS, focusing on low-cost, high-potential signings for the future.
A transfer strategy that has much been implemented by other European giants – Chelsea in particular.
Former Cerro Porteno manager Manolo Jimenez, who gave Leon his first-team debut, spoke positively about the young left-back’s potential as reported by Sport Witness.

“Manchester United have seen in him what I saw, what my teammates saw,” Jimenez said.
“I am honestly very happy that this signing can be completed.”
Jimenez believes Leon is a player with attacking flair but still needs to improve defensively.
“He’s a protoype of a full-back in many attacking conditions.
With his age, he still has time to improve his defensive aspect, which is what he has to grow.”
He is confident that United will provide the right environment for Leon’s development.
“Surely in Manchester, they will give him the right job so that can develop.
“The day he’s clear about his decision making, he will be a great player and won’t make mistakes that are typical for his age and inexperience.” Jimenez added.
United fans are eagerly anticipating what the young Paraguayan can bring to the club once he arrives.
