We’re only about a third of the way through 2025, but it’s shaping up to be an interesting time for fighting game fans. To highlight “the state of fighting games in 2025,” Diaphone recently created a tier list that rates many of the fighters that are relevant today.
Each game is rated based on the following: competition, online experience, ongoing support, gameplay, and casual appeal. As such, Street Fighter 6 and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising are both seated at the very top of Diaphone’s list in the S tier category.
Diaphone mentions multiple times how Tekken 8 also would’ve made S tier if not for the Season 2 patch. Indeed, the playerbase is so unhappy with the game right now that the Tekken 8 development team are supposedly scrambling to create an “emergency patch” to fix the game.
As such, Tekken 8 is rated as being an A tier alongside Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, and Under Night In-Birth. Perhaps Tekken 8 can return to its rightful S tier status after the developers patch the game.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and 2XKO are both slated to be released later this year. For now, we’re not sure how good these games will be, but they have the potential to be S tier should everything fall into place as they’re supposed to.
MultiVersus lands itself in the F tier group as the game is literally dying. The game held such promise for fans at the beginning, but everything seems to be falling apart as support will soon be ending.
Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that Diaphone recommends that everyone just play the games that they like, even if he personally rates them as being a “low tier” on this tier list. Check it all out below:
