Dialogue With Labour Will Guarantee Industrial Harmony- FG

In a renewed commitment to fostering industrial harmony, the minister of Labour and employment Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with labour unions to ensure a stable and strike-free economy.

Speaking at his Sokoto residence on Thursday, the minister said that the government is actively engaging with union leaders to address concerns and foster a collaborative working relationship.

According to him, the dialogue aim is to address concerns, promote mutual understanding, and ultimately strengthen partnerships between the government and union representatives.

“We have been working closely with union leadership, including the labour union, to foster mutual understanding, encourage dialogue, and ensure that we carry everyone along. So far, this approach has been successful in preventing any major strike actions.”

Addressing the recent two-day strike in Sokoto, Dingyadi clarified that it was a localized incident that the government was unaware of initially.

He said however, swift intervention led to a resolution within 48 hours. “What is most important is that the government continues to work hand in hand with labour leaders, ensuring transparency and inclusivity in decision-making processes.”

He commended the labour leaders for their cooperation and support in ensuring industrial peace, expressing optimism that the current trend of understanding between the government and labour unions would continue.

“We believe that what workers want is their welfare, and this administration, under the leadership of President Tinibu, is committed to ensuring that workers receive what is due to them. In return, we expect their commitment to national progress.”

He noted that the government’s focus is on creating an enabling environment that fosters job creation rather than direct employment.

Adding that their responsibility is to create opportunities that enable Nigerians to be self-sustaining and self-employed.”

“When individuals are gainfully employed, job security is more assured, and the economy thrives.”

The minister acknowledged the support and cooperation of Mr president in strengthening the synergy between workers, employers, and the government.

The official also urged media correspondents, particularly those covering labour affairs, to provide accurate and balanced reporting to help foster national unity and development.
