The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as empty blabbing a threat by a former militant leader in the Niger Delta, Asari Dokubo, that he would shoot down a military plane.
The ex-agitator had in a video, said he could bring down a military plane on a surveillance mission near his house during last weekend’s local council election in Rivers State.
He said the aircraft was trying to intimidate him because of his support for the election.
However, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, dismissed Dokubo’s threat as “laughable.”
He said the ex-militant leader lacks the power to challenge the military or shoot down its aircraft.
The spokesman pointed out that various security agencies use aircraft and helicopters for national security purposes.
