In fighting games, specifically Street Fighter, you may have heard the phrase “take the throw” tossed around some. What take the throw means is that when you’re being pressured in the corner by an opponent, sometimes it’s better to simply take the throw and eat its set damage instead of trying to hit your own button, being counter hit, then taking a full combo’s worth of damage.
However, every once in a while the “take the throw” advice can go a little too far. In this Street Fighter 6 clip featuring a Dee Jay mirror match, one Dee Jay wins an entire round using nothing but regular throw, and by the seventh throw you’ll be screaming at the screen, “Jump! Do something! Anything!”
This clip comes from Kyoku236HS, who is the Dee Jay player in the video delivering the throws. Uncharacteristically for Dee Jay players, this round actually has a slower start.
Kyoku walks up cautiously to the opponent as they crouch and defend, likely expecting a big normal or a Drive Rush. Instead, Kyoku simply lands a regular throw, the first of what would be many in this round.
After that first throw, the Dee Jay player uses a raw Drive Rush to close the gap and get right back into the opponent’s face before landing another throw. They rinse and repeat a second time, and by now three throws have been landed putting the other Dee Jay into the corner.
From there, Kyoku simply keeps using forward dash to get in quickly, then throwing again. When all is said and done, the Dee Jay player lands eight throws in a row, which completely drains the opponent’s health bar.
Throw loops aren’t new in Street Fighter, nor even in Street Fighter 6. However, this has to be the first time we’ve seen anyone win a full round literally with just regular throw. It’s impressive, but also hard to watch because it could happen to any of us.
