It was a standstill in Markudi, Benue State Capital yesterday for over four hours, motorist were left stranded as students of the School for the Handicapped, AliadeBenue State barricaded the Makurdi-Otukpo road.
According to Benue com.ng, the students were protesting the inability of the state government to pay their teachers salaries for several months.
They also alleged that they had been abandoned by the government and hadn’t eaten for three days prior to the protest.
After hours of chaos, the policemen deployed, succeeded in clearing the road to allow free flow of traffic once again.
Recall that civil servants in Benue State have only been paid January salaries this year; a situation the state government blames on the dwindling federal revenue allocation to the state due to the falling global price of crude oil.
